Buses

There are two types of bus systems in Argentina, the commuting buses and the long-distance omnibus.

Standard Bus System

The regular street buses are known as colectivos and you will find numerous amounts of them throughout Buenos Aires. They typically cost around 0.80 centavos and many lines can take you from one end of the city to the other. This is a highly recommended method of travel for those on a budget and a great way to see various part of the city without having to walk around. It has been said that you can see almost all of Buenos Aires on just a few different lines. However you do need to have a bus map and some knowledge of the stops before using them or else you could end up far away from where you want to be. Some lines can get extremely crowded during morning and afternoon rush hours where you will literally feel like a sardine in a can. Do be vigilant of pickpockets and never keep your wallet or purse in areas that can easily be picked.

Omnibus

If you want to do some long distance exploring, have the time, and a tight budget, this is a great method of transportation for you. The large bus terminal in Retiro is where all major omnibus lines depart from to other parts of the country. Remember that Argentina is a very large country with most major areas or cities widely spread apart. Expect most bus journeys to take anywhere from 4-24 hours. However, most all of these buses are extremely lavish with super large reclining plush chairs that are easy to fall asleep in.
